MASTER BEDROOM GALLERY WALL

I love me a good gallery wall. It’s a place to compile and display things you love– photos, artwork, mirrors, figurines, some sentimental, some quirky. They can be difficult to put together without making them look messy, but I think it’s a fun challenge. Sort of like a jigsaw puzzle.
Our bedroom had a wall I knew would be perfect for one. I’m a lover of photographs so I knew I wanted to include a few photos, but I also wanted to make it interesting. Here’s how my master bedroom gallery wall came together.
It all started with a sunburst mirror. I didn’t want it to be so big it dominated the wall, so I went with this one from Home Depot. It’s really inexpensive too– bonus! Typically, I think keeping all the frames similar is a good strategy, but I decided instead to go with a mixture of gold and white.
I picked up all of the gold frames from a local thrift store for a dollar each on average. I bought a new mat for one of them from the craft store for a dollar as well.
The two white frames are from ikea. I had more frames than I intended on using because I wanted to be able to pick and choose which ones looked best, and play around with it a little bit. I laid it all out on my floor while I moved frames around. I also knew I wanted to include a piece of art I painted, and two antique paintings I found at an estate sale. I think they add something unexpected.
Once I felt like I had the right combination of frames/art, I selected photos I thought looked right with the frames I had selected. I chose two wedding photos of Jon and me, a photo Veronica took of us a couple years ago, and one of Ruby. I had a large frame left, so I picked up some charcoal and an art pad.
I wanted to write the word “love” using charcoal, and thought it would be pretty simple. It took me several tries to get a version I was happy with. Writing with a little piece of charcoal in cursive is harder than it looks! It’s not professional by any means, but I love that it’s my own handwriting and not an ordered print. It makes it special. Here is a progression of how it looked as I hung it. (forgive the coloring. It was super late at night!)
In total, I spent under $50 for the entire wall, because I was able to save so much money on the gold thrift store frames and handmade “love” art. I think it adds some sentimentality to our room and I love looking at Ruby’s happy face everyday.
