DIY Corner Bookcase (video)

January 25, 2020

This post is from our Stagg Design project archives and originally posted in July 2015. We hope it gives you inspiration and some tips for tackling that next project! xx- Team Stagg

The first big projects we tackled right after I had Anna were two sets of built-in bookshelves– one in the playroom, and one in the front room.  When I say right after, I mean right after, as in a few days after I got home from the hospital and we shot this video.

I just love built-in shelving in pretty much any space.  It adds so much character and makes your home feel so custom.  I had the idea to add a corner bookcase, or corner built-in, in the front living room in a sort of plain and awkward corner next to the front door.

Per usual, I designed it and Jon did the heavy lifting.  He’s just so great at making my whacky ideas come to life.  And this one is a project you can totally do yourself.  I give you our DIY corner bookcase tutorial.  It’s in video, naturally, which I think makes it so much easier to understand.

Video/Editing: James Young

No written words could express how excited I am to get these babies styled.  Styling is my jam.

Ya’ll, you know you’ve got an awkward corner in your home somewhere.  Go build yo self a bookshelf.

xx,

    Hi there!
Lovely job on the shelves. I was wondering what the dimensions are?

  3. Hannah Westphal says:

Can you send me dimensions for this project? This is the exact layout of our living room and we are hoping to do the same thing. You could even text me if it’s easier. 270-392-4791 Thank you!

    Hello,

I love this!! How much weight do you think these shelves could hold? I would like these in the garage and in my craft room. In the garage, I would like to store extra drinks, (Sams shopper). Like water, Gatorade, etc…..

    • Jen says:

Hello! I think they would be strong enough for that. They are really really sturdy. We used the same method in our pantry.

  6. Megan says:

How did you paint them? Spray paint? With a brush?

Very cool project! How did you paint this? Did you spray paint it? Did you use a brush? Did you use a paint sprayer? Thanks!

  8. Thank you so much for making this video! I love coming up with designs for my home but its harder for my husband to visualize when im describing it. This brought us together on my latest project : the book nook! May I ask how much this particular built-in project cost? thanks!

    • Administrator says:

Hi there! So glad you found some inspiration! I believe it cost us a couple hundred dollars for supplies. Hope that is helpful! xx
