No room in the house gives me more satisfaction than a family room. A place to kick back, relax, laugh, play, entertain. A room where your family can be most at ease and most themselves. Give me all the family rooms, and this one from Project Western Roots gives me all the feels.
Here’s what I love most about this project: the family almost never used this room before, and now it’s one of their favorite places in the houses. Music to my ears as a designer.
Let’s first talk about the lounge area around the fireplace. It’s has all the right ingredients: a beautiful fireplace with built-in shelving, a large vintage area rug, an ottoman perfect for relaxing, comfortable sofas, and an element of fun: a round swivel chair and a half.
Adjacent to the lounge space, we created a game area, complete with oversized wall mounted family games: Connect Four, Risk, and Scrabble. There’s also a ping pong table. We love a round table with club chairs in a game area. I think it just invites people to sit down, relax and play together!
Just behind the sofa, we created a conversation spot where a more intimate game of Tic-Tac-Toe could happen, or the adults could enjoy a drink while the kids play.
A few other favorite “moments” from this space: a pretty console to store puzzles, cubbies for children’s books and toys, a wet bar for snacks and drinks, and a family heirloom oversized lamp we were so excited to incorporate. Isn’t it amazing?!
Below are some links to a few of the pieces in this space. Want to put together your own family room game area? We have a Get the Look space design coming up later this week, inspired by this one and a few of our other favorite client family game rooms! Coming up on Friday!
Until then…
xx, Jen
