Although this year had its challenges, we had some exciting and beautiful Stagg Design projects come out of 2020. As this year comes to a close, we’re recapping some of our favorite spaces from this year. We hope you love looking at them again as much as we do!

I’ll just say it. Kids rooms are my favorite. There’s nothing better in my job than creating spaces perfect for perfect little people. I love getting to know kids, looking inside their creative minds, and figuring out how best to share their personalities and passions through design. We designed several children’s rooms in Project Fit Fam, and everyone on Team Stagg agrees, this bunk room is one of our all time favorites.

First let’s talk about the backstory of this room. When we started working with the client, this room looked like this:

This room technically belongs to our client’s 9-year-old son, though all of the kids had taken up residence. These darling siblings just loved all being together so much, they would sleep in the bed, the trundle, then schlep in mattresses so they could all sleep together in the same room. It wasn’t a great situation as far as comfort and functionality, and so the idea for a big old bunk room was born.

Occasionally I run across an image of a space or a “moment” in a restaurant, building, or nature that is burned in my mind. I wait patiently for the perfect space to pull some of that original inspiration from and sometimes it all comes together to create the dreamiest bunk room we’ve ever seen. I mean, this room makes me want to be a kid again just to stay here. But I digress….

Several years ago, I came across an article in Architectural Digest featuring an apartment in Manhattan designed by Elena Frampton with some really sweet children’s bedrooms. The dark bunk beds with brass railings were so striking, we used them as inspiration for the bunk room in Project Fit Fam. Our clients loved the high contrast and put our own spin on them with a custom railing design, trundle, shelving, styling and wallpaper (which is a favorite from Stagg Design Shop!).

We designed the custom bunk beds with not only the four siblings in mind, but also cousins which often stay over as house guests. This room sleeps six with the trundles, with extra space in the middle just in case there are a few sleeping bagged sleepers you want to cram in.

As I mentioned, the owner of the room is a 9-year-old boy so even though all the kids like to sleep in here together, we wanted him to feel ownership over the room. His likes, interests, personality, and passions came together in our color selections and styling.

We have a few of our favorite and exciting new Stagg Design Shop products we used in this space, including our Adventure Art Print and two new art prints we are releasing soon in our upcoming Vintage Collection.

I know you’ll ask: the paint color on the bunks, base boards, doors and moulding is Wrought Iron from Benjamin Moore.

Immediately following our reveal to the clients, the kids ran into the room and made themselves at home reading and playing and climbing the bunks. It was such a rewarding moment and I knew we had nailed it.
