This week I was at an installation and the client asked if they could walk me down to their basement to ask advice. She expressed so much frustration over how her basement was such an afterthought. It didn’t feel cohesive, comfortable, and like an extension of her home. It’s something I’ve heard so many times from clients, and I immediately thought of Project Fit Fam. We hadn’t yet revealed their basement spaces, and they speak so much to the sentiment that your basement has the potential to be the funnest spot in the whole house.
Back when we were first starting Project Fit Fam, our clients expressed some of the same feelings: they loved to entertain family and friends, but the basement just didn’t feel comfortable and had instead turned into a room they rarely used. It had a sofa, but that was just about it. We also had a very tight timeline, as they were planning a big family party (pre-covid) and really hoped we could complete the space before then. Our Stagg Design team leapt into action and what we created was something really special.
This is a really, really big room. Really. Big. That sectional? It’s huge. It would overpower a lot of room, yet it doesn’t look that way in this space. Scale is so important. The first thing I knew was we would need a lot more furniture to round out the space and make it feel comfortable and complete. The pillow combination is so pretty. All are from Stagg Design Shop.
With really large rooms, I like to think in terms of zones. In this room, there was a super large projector screen and we needed the furniture to feel balanced. A nice, soft area rug filled in this “zone” and then large leather club chairs, tufted ottomans and some stool ottomans provided plenty of spots to lounge comfortably.
On the far side of the room, we created a game “zone” with game tables, a round table and some swivel club chairs next to a super-sized wall mounted Scrabble Board. So fun, right?! The family could hardly wait for us to leave before they busted out a game.
On the other side, there’s a cute kitchenette we styled with everything you need to host a good gathering. We also added a console for games and serve ware, and added one of our new Stagg Design Shop Willow’s Creek art piece from our new Vintage Artwork Collection. It’s one of my favorites.
The biggest compliment we can receive is hearing from our clients a completed room immediately becomes their favorite room in the house. That was the case when we finished this basement area, and it’s been so rewarding to hear about all of the family gatherings they’ve hosted!
Have you checked out the rest of Project Fit Fam? It’s such a fun home!

We’ve got some really beautiful projects I’m getting ready to share. Now that the girls are back in school, I’m digging out of the hole I’ve dug myself into for the last six months. Working parents, you feel me. More to come soon!
xx, Jen
