Happy Wednesday! Today is the big day– the day I’m sharing the remodeled kitchen reveal. We’ve been enjoying this space for a while now and it’s changed our lives, I tell ya. And the best part? The entire makeover cost us under $2000. First, let’s look at a few befores, just for old times sake.
(Previous owner’s belongings)
The only thing I miss is the stained glass cabinet doors.
I kid.
Ok folks, here she is, all shiny and bright and new in video form, naturally, with a starring role by miss Ruby Sue! (wait for the outtake at the verrrrry end)
Video/Editing: James Young
Ok, so lets break it all down. Demo for this room was minimal. We only tore out the backsplash, and replaced the hood and cooktop (tutorial coming next week!). The rest we pretty much worked with what we had, and added a few new things that freshened up the space and also made it more current.
I showed you how to install under cabinet lighting, add moulding detail to your existing kitchen island, how to paint kitchen cabinets the right way (so they look sprayed!), I replaced the stained glass, showed you how to replace the faucet, and how to transform your ugly blinds into roman shades. We also showed you how to install a subway tile backsplash and added this island light Kenroy Home sent me a while back.
My goodness, when you put it all together like that, it makes it sound like it was a lot of work! Ha! I’ve learned if you do things yourself, you pay more in time than money. This was a time consuming room, but we saved so much money. I can’t even imagine how much more we would have spent if we would have torn everything out and started anew.
A few of the room details: Drum Shade Pendant | Bar Stools | Island Light | Rugs (similar) | Hand Towels from Homegoods | Vase (similar)
Up tomorrow, it’s a state holiday here in Utah and I’m sharing the amazing cookie recipe we made in the video. It’s a family favorite!
Oh Ruby!!! Such a cutie I swear!!! The kitchen is beautiful Jen. Its amazing what a little paint and a whole lotta patience can do, right? Just gorgeous. I loove the backsplash:)
Thank you, sweet Shavonda!
Your blog is quickly becoming one of my favorites! Love your kitchen! It’s beautiful, you have done a great job! We bought a new to us home last year. The cabinets are dark cherry wood and I am dying (and a little afraid) to paint them. I know that they were expensive to originally put in and I just have to get past that and do what I love! Thanks for the inspiration!
What a sweet comment, thank you Natalie! Good luck with your kitchen– I say go for the paint!
Love, love the kitchen!!! So beautiful! But I was wondering about your outfit! So cute! Where’s the dress from?
Thank you so much, Miriam! The dress is from Gap last season, but I think they have a similar option currently!
Where is the best place to buy fake flowers?
Hi Melissa, I think Michael’s has a pretty good selection.
It looks so beautiful! I love the white you chose for your cabinets. Not too bright, but not too warm either. It is absolutely fantastic. Love the video. Your daughter is the sweetest.
Thank you so much, Emily! You’re so kind!
Hi ! I loooove your kitchen, it’s gorgeous ! I wish you the best times with your family in there ! And the video is really cool as well, good job !
Thank you so much, Marianne!
Thank you!:)
Stunning, simple stunning!…
Thank you so much!
Lovely blog but………………why do people choose a WP Theme that is so hard to read?
The type color is so light that it is impossible for me to see it. Please consider changing it to a darker type color. I can’t be the only person whose eyes just will not be able to read such a light color.
Hi Carol, I just replied to your other comment about the text color:)
I love your kitchen remodel! We just got done with our kitchen redo, but I’m still looking for cabinet hardware I like. Where did you get your handles? I love them!
Thank you, Sarah! The hardware was there when we moved in, and we liked it so I just kept it. But I have seen very similar at either Home Depot or Lowe’s– I can’t remember which. Hope that helps!
[…] does a great job of repurposing and using what is already in her home for her renovations – their kitchen was totally transformed with some paint and a new […]
Hi Jen! We just purchased a home that we will be “lightening up!” Do you mind telling me what color of paint is on your walls? Thanks so much!
Hi Jillian! It’s “Pale Silver” by Restoration Hardware. I love it! Thanks for reading!
Hey Jen,
Do you know where the cabinet handles/pulls came from?
Hi Jennifer, I don’t! We kept the same ones the previous owners had– but I’ve seen a similar style at Home Depot. Sorry I can’t be more helpful!
