REFINISHED BLUE PEACOCK VELVET WINGBACK CHAIRS

I have wanted blue velvet chairs for a long time. There is just something about blue velvet that makes me swoon. So when I spotted these two ladies on KSL classifieds a while back, I thought they would be perfect with some new blue velvet clothes.
The bones were good. They were solid, and well built. I paid $40 for the pair after a little negotiating, and sent them off to Rocky Mountain Upholstery to be recovered.
Velvet fabric can be quite expensive, and there is plenty of garbage out there, so I like to actually feel a velvet before I buy it. I found this particular piece at Home Fabrics for $8.99 a yard. Good velvet typically costs anywhere from $20-$40 a yard. I had found a serious bargain.
You can tell a velvet fabric is quality when you run your hand across it against the grain, and it doesn’t ball up. If it balls up, or feels really stiff, it’s cheap. This piece was smooth and durable. After reupholstery, a few weeks later they looked like this:
The color is a little darker than the photos show. They are a fun pop of color in my family room, which is starting to come along. Our kitchen is moving a little slower than we had hoped, due to a growing list of demanding clients for Jon and a growing pile of projects and opportunities for me. All good things, just all things that take up our time. Hoping to have it complete this month. Wish us luck! I’ll do a progress post soon so you can see how it’s coming along.
