How to choose fabric for upholstery is without a doubt one of the most difficult things about refinishing a piece, or designing a space. How do you choose a piece of fabric? How do you know it’s quality? Do you go with linen, or velvet? And how do you know you’re paying a fair price for what you’re getting?
You can buy fabric in a million different places, and I’ve probably bought it in all million places. Fabric stores, furniture stores, Ebay, estate sales, upholstery shops, direct from source/manufacturer, trade shows, you name it. It can be confusing, and daunting so today I’m sharing some secrets from my upholsterer, Brian Maxfield from Rocky Mountain Upholstery. In today’s video, we really delve into all the ins and outs of fabric. I love this series, and I hope you find it helpful as well!
As always, thanks to James Young for his stellar skills behind the camera and in editing.

I really like how you talked about how difficult it can be to find some good fabric when refinishing a space. I’ve been working on remodeling our bathroom, and my wife wanted to go to the fabric store to help us find things that would match. Hopefully we can be successful in finding some good stuff that matches well from the fabric store! Thanks for the article and video!
