I apologize for my little break as of late. I’m nearing the end of the this pregnancy and I feel like I’m in the last point 2 of a marathon. So much to do, so little time, and no more energy even though I can see the darn finish line in front of me!
Today we’re getting into the nitty-gritty of the renovation and sharing some of the construction. We have added two additions to the house– one in the kitchen and one in the master bedroom. We’ve also had to upgrade all of the windows in the house and many of them in the basement were too small to meet current code. As a result, we had to dig down, cut new window wells, and cut out bigger windows. All of this has been messy and yucky and muddy but well worth it. The light pouring in the once dark basement is worth it all alone! Take a look at the process:

To say all of this has done a number on the backyard would be an understatement. The good news is we were planning on re-doing most of the landscaping anyway. Ruby’s room downstairs now has a flood of natural light where before it was dark and cold feeling. And the additions have completely transformed the house.
One tip: if you’re looking to do something similar to your house, try to find a company that does both concrete cutting and excavation/foundation pouring. Some companies only do one or the other but it was really helpful (and I think helped us keep the cost in check) to have one company do it all so the whole process went smoothly.
Well folks, if all goes as planned, this baby will be here some time tomorrow (eeeeeeeeek!). Here’s hoping and praying for a nice smooth delivery and a healthy baby girl at the end of it.
Thank you for all of your love and support during this crazy and exciting time in our lives! New year, new/old house, new baby– all amazing things and we feel abundantly blessed.
Good luck! Prayers coming your way for sure! 🙂
Thank you so much!
