When planning my first born’s birthday party, I kept several things in mind– I wanted it to be sweet, simple, and small. Spring is in full bloom now, and while I knew the weather can be hit or miss this time of year, I had checked the weather reports and the day of her party looked like perfect weather. I had visions of colorful buntings and Chinese lanterns strung across our backyard in the sunshine. And then it rained. Hard. We had to move the party indoors.
It wasn’t ideal, but I made it work. Ruby’s First Bunting Birthday Brunch was a success. Ruby was surrounded by family and close friends who love her. The food hit the spot– fruit and yogurt parfaits, juice and chocolate milk, and a pancake bar with an assortment of toppings and different types of syrup. It was so fun to see what different creations everyone came up with.
I ordered a mini cake and mini cupcakes from one of my favorite local bakeries, So Cupcake, and they were a great ending to a great meal. I ordered the decor on Etsy, and I was so pleased with how everything turned out. One note on those shall we say, neon flowers… I sent my husband to the store to get a bouquet with very specific instructions. He came back with those and was quite proud of himself. He walked in saying “aren’t these AWESOME?!?” He thought he had knocked it out of the park. I was tempted to trash them, but I think they added a “special” and memorable touch. So funny.
Ruby wasn’t so sure at first what to think of the cake, but she got the hang of it eventually.
Everyone was so very thoughtful and sentimental with their gifts. I will cherish this special day always.
