Vegan Hot Chocolate

January 28, 2016

I don’t know about you, but my body craves a warm drink every. single. day.  Especially this time of year when my neighborhood is covered with oodles of snow, I just want to curl up with a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.  I’m not a coffee drinker, so hot chocolate is my addiction.

Wayfair asked me and a few other bloggers what our perfect snow day activity would be, and mine had to include hot chocolate.  I’m that big of a fanatic.

While non-fat milk isn’t a bad option, I’ve been trying to cut back on dairy lately so I did some digging online and found a few cow’s milk alternative recipes then put them all together and came up with my own.  You guys, it’s really really delicious.  I’m not just saying that– it really is.  I can hardly tell a difference and I’ve got a very discerning palette.

You only need a few ingredients:

Note: I used sweetened Almond Milk, and then just added the honey to taste.  Either sweetened or unsweetened works great.

Heat the milk first.  I think the stove works the best, and love heating milk in a kettle like this one.  I mean, how cute is that?  Practical and would look adorable sitting on your stove all the time.

Next mix in the cocoa, whisking until it is dissolved.  Pour into your mug and add in the honey and salt.  Top with marshmallows, if you fancy.

This is so creamy and yummy.  It’s my new favorite wintertime treat.  It feels like a splurge even though it’s really not.

I tend to be kind of a pretty dish hoarder (shocking, I know) and I think these mugs are so cute, and a great price.  Can you have too many mug options?  I think not.

Happy Thursday!  Let’s virtually clank our mugs o’cocoa and say cheers to a great rest of the week!

just so you know, honey and marshmallows are not vegan. you can use maple syrup/agave/or just sugar instead and buy vegan marshmallows 🙂

This looks awesome! Hot chocolate with almond milk is delicious and I think it’s an even sweeter treat than when it’s made with cow’s milk.

You might want to caution any readers making this for Vegan friends that a lot of vegans don’t use honey and almost all commercially produced marshmallows are not vegetarian friendly. Some people don’t care, but some might and I’d hate to see a reader put work into serving this delicious looking treat to someone else only to possibly get rejected.

i love almond milk, so i’ll give this a try.

it’s actually spelled “palate.” palette means something else.
