Treasure Hunting Tuesday: Thrifted Dishes

October 21, 2014

Happy Tuesday!  First, thank you thank you for your sweet words about our big move.  It’s going to be a whacky winter, that’s for sure!  Can’t wait to tell you all about our next home as soon as a few more things are finalized.  It’s so exciting!

On to today’s treasures: we’re talking thrifted dishes.

I tell you what, there is a whole lot of crap on the dish isle of a thrift store.   Dishes you wonder why anyone every bought in the first place.  But lemme tell you what, on one very lucky day, I hit the thrifted dish gold mine.  Speaking of gold….

Yep, gold Greek Key.  I was in love instantly.  I’m a Greek key lovin’ fool, as I’ve professed many a time here.  A complete set of four, with some extra teacups and soup bowls and a few random teacups.  I wish so much it was 6 or 8, but I figured I would snatch it up and search for additional pieces later on Replacements.  After doing some research, I learned they are kind of an obscure brand– GNA– and finding more of the set will be tricky.

If you come across some, let me know!  The dishes were $1-$1.50 a piece.  Steal-o-rama.

A few days later I found this set of, you guessed it, four, gold rimmed vintage glasses.  I love them oh so much and thought they would be lovely with the aforementioned dishes.  And they are.  A buck a glass and I felt like I had struck gold.  (see what I did there?)

So treasure hunters, have you snatched up anything good lately?

I live in Salt Lake as well and try my best to make it to the local DI’s but I very rarely seem to find anything. Do you have any favorite DI’s or other thrift stores in the valley? 🙂

    • Jen says:

Hi Rebecca, I often get asked for my favorites and honestly I don’t have one! I hit different ones all the time. I love DI– you just have to get lucky and go frequently!
