Let’s take a little glimpse back in time, shall we? To a time when this part of the #staggreno was all brick, boring, dark, dysfunctional, and hadn’t hosted a gathering in at least a decade. This is the space formerly known as a patio no party had any business being.
Doesn’t it make you just want to kick back and enjoy a bevy on a summer night? As you may remember, this space underwent a major facelift.
We knocked down pretty much the entire section of the house, added a bump out, rebuilt the wall with vaulted ceilings and huge awesome windows, added hardy board, painted the brick, and now, this place is ready to entertain!
Enter AE Outdoor. They contacted me a while back and asked if I’d be interested in teaming up for a collaboration. One look through their website and I knew they would be a perfect match. Honestly, the prettiest modern and fresh outdoor furniture I have ever seen. I could see almost every set working in this space.
We’ll talk more about that in a minute, but first let’s take a look at the after via video:

Just a wee transformation, right? Now we’re ready to party!
Furniture selection for the space was no easy task. Originally I was thinking a small sectional of some kind. I loved this one very much. But as Jon and I went back and forth and weighed all of the options, we decided more of a sofa and two chairs setup would be best. This set was a top contender. So good, right? In the end, the Whitmire stuck out as the clear choice for no other reason than that it just felt good. The perfect vibe/comfort/functionality we were looking for: warm and relaxed yet had a mid-century vibe happening with the lines and shape. And boy, is it comfortable.
I love that the ottomans provide either additional seating or act as side tables. We’ve already used them as both.
AE Outdoor is having quite the sale on some of their sets right now. I honestly love every. single. one.
We’re hoping to tackle phase two this summer after we move in, which will be very soon (please, please let it be soon!). Things always take longer than expected in these types of projects, don’t they? We’re in the home stretch people!

I am a follower of your blog. I love your design sense and sensibility. What is the source of the hurricane lanterns on your new patio? I didn’t see them for sale at the AE Outdoor website. Thank you.
Hi Kris, thank you so much! It’s from Crate and Barrel. The large are from Target. Thanks for reading!
[…] Hello, hello. Where have I been, you may be asking? We’ve been pushing to get the house finished and as a result I’ve been single-parenting it while Jon has been working at his job and at the house non-stop. Soon I’ll do a post about the craziness that is renovating/having a baby/running a design business/raising a toddler/being a lawyer but today, I’m sharing a rare relaxing moment we recently enjoyed with family, testing out our new patio.
