I wanted to back up a little today and talk about the tile selections for the master bathroom. I’ve received a lot of questions about them and there is much to share, after a lot of research and plotting and planning.
Let’s first talk about the walls. Folks, the first thing I envisioned for this bathroom was floor to ceiling marble tile. I mean, don’t we all want this in our lives?
Making it happen without completely blowing our budget was tricky. It took much research. I looked at at a lot of samples and visited a lot of warehouses trying to find not only the right look (My heart wanted Calcutta Gold, which also happens to be one of the most expensive types of marble. Of course), but also something that fit within our budget. It was tough.
After searching and searching, I found this option from Home Depot online. It’s a 12×12 tile, honed marble in Grecian White. It’s gorgeous. And that price cannot be beat. Now there is a polished version that is a bit less expensive. Equally as beautiful but not the look we were going for. We simply cut them in half to give us the subway pattern I wanted.
Now to the floor. I didn’t know I was going for hex right away. I looked at a ton of beautiful options but in the end, the most economical and most beautiful combo was this tile, also from Home Depot. We have used it before– in fact it’s the same tile from our last master bathroom– and I knew the quality was great. It’s also the same color as the wall tile.
For the grout, I went back and forth between two color options but settled on Alabaster.
And there you have it. Marble tile for the most economical price and best quality I could find. Now, go forth and marble tile all the rooms.
xx,
Looking at your beautiful bathroom….what color grout did you use?
Thank you so much! I believe it’s Alabaster.
A really big favor-would you take few pictures of your exterior. I would like to see your garage doors that you chose. Also could I possibly get your opion on our house with exterior colors.
Excellent article covering the details of your bathroom tile experience. The end result turned out beautiful. It gives a great perspective hearing the tug-of-war between what you wanted and what was within your budget. Thanks for sharing this awesome resource!
Love the tile selections! Did you need to seal the tile before grouting?? There were some comments on Home Depots website that were concerning.
Hmmm, we sealed the tile after grouting– not before. Does that answer your question?
Wondering what the dimension of the shower is – would love something similar, but not sure if we have the room. Thanks!
Hi! Thank you for following WithHeart, and for you question. The shower is roughly 42 in. wide and 83 in. long. We have loved the size, but you could shrink the length a bit and it would probably still work. Good luck with your project!

Beautiful work! Where did you find shower doors with gold trim?
Hi there! We ordered the doors through Dixon Glass here in Utah!
What brand are your glass door hardware pieces? I’m having trouble finding a match like that. We have Delta Champange bronze/Brizo luxe gold finish.
Hi there! We ordered them through our glass company, Dixon Glass, so I’m not sure what brand they are.
Hi, what brand Alabaster did you use? It seems to be a common name for grout color. 🙂
Hi! I’m not sure! I’m sorry!
Can you share the source for your shower trim hardware kit? This is so gorgeous

Tile is gorgeous!! I love that it’s from Home Depot and a great price! After some time, do you feel like the quality of the marble/grout choice has lasted, or is there anything you would have done differently? Thank you!
Hi there! Thank you so much! It’s held up great. No issues!
Where is the glass from!? Ive been struggling to find glass shower with gold fixtures in the correct size.
Hi there! It’s custom made from a local glass company.
