Some women just have it. You know “it.” That certain something that makes them effortlessly chic, talented, and successful. Erin Souder, author of House of Earnest and owner/creator of Grandifora Home + Decor, just has it. Today I’m thrilled to be sharing more about her design aesthetic, as well as a few shots of her beautiful home.
Q) First, just tell me about you, your background, etc.
A) My name is Erin and I am most happy when I’m creating something and putting my imaginative skills to work. I started out as a buyer and product developer in the fashion industry and soon wanted to flex my own design ideas, so I created House of Earnest. After 3 years of running the blog, I started to think about what my life would look like if I meshed the blogging with my skills from the product development I was doing at work. Grandiflora was born soon after and is a natural-meets-glamorous-chic lifestyle brand which sells my home decor and entertaining designs.
Q) What is your favorite spot in your home?
A) It’s a toss up! I love how creative and inspired I feel in my office, but my bedroom instantly makes me feel relaxed and ‘off-the-clock’. I also love how light and bright my bedroom is which is the perfect place to be on a rainy day!
Q) How did you come up with your home’s design concept, and where did you find inspiration?
A) Our home is very old. It’s been in my husband’s family for multiple generations and has gone through so many renovations and facelifts. When we moved in, it had been made into a rental property, so it had very generic trimmings and colors. My goals was to create a modern and unique space that was true to the ‘turn-of-the-century’ character of the home. I use a lot of neutral colors, natural textures, and play up the intricate woodwork.
Q) What do you hope your family and guests feel when they enter your home?
A) I want people to feel like they’re experiencing the character of a unique house, but also to feel very comfortable.
Q) What is the most important thing you keep in mind when putting a space together?
A) The size of the furniture. When most people are getting their first homes, they’re drawn to inexpensive pieces, but a lot of those pieces are designed for apartment living, which means they’re a smaller size than what a home needs. My advice is to measure your space and be sure to consult with a salesperson when buying big pieces for your home. You’ll be happier long-term if you have pieces you can grow into.

Tomorrow, I’m sharing Ruby’s bathroom reveal– hooray! It’s finished and I think it turned out so sweet. Remember boring bathroom-ville? It is boring no more. Get ready for some color and the cutest wall design I ever did see.
