We are just about wrapped up with the before tours of our new/old home. Today I’m sharing the before of two bedrooms– one will be Ruby’s, and the other will likely be Jon’s office/the guest room.
The curtains and carpet in this room were particularly retro (read: old and disgusting)
Yep, that’s water damage along the back wall. Not awesome.
Like any old home, sometimes you just don’t know exactly what you have to work with until you can knock down walls, tear up carpet, and actually see underneath the furniture that was already in place.
That’s the position we were in. These two rooms both have some weirdness/grossness happening. If you follow me on Instagram, one of these rooms is where we found the carton of milk in the wall– that had been there since around 1970. Yuck-O-Rama.
The good news is they’ve already changed so much, it’s hard to remember them looking like this all old and outdated.
Here’s a little virtual tour:

I have some fun ideas for Ruby’s big girl room– including re-purposing some of the items from her nursery in new ways. If you’ve ever converted a nursery to a room for a growing child, who wants to have to start completely from scratch and buy everything new? I plan to incorporate a lot of what she already has and use some of it unexpectedly.
And soon we start getting into the nitty-gritty of the construction, with a whole lot of tips and tricks for renovating on a budget, what to expect, tips for working with contractors, etc.
Oh, and we’re having a baby. In like four weeks. Ahhhhhhhhhh! I need to freeze time for a bit longer! I’m not ready!
Have a great rest of the week!
