Imagine, if you will, a costume party with noting but crickets. Nothing but the sound of someone’s scratchy spaceman costume rubbing together on the dance floor or Frankenstein’s big boots stomping to the beat of their own drum, literally. Just doesn’t seem right, does it? No Halloween party is complete without some tunes, so when Wayfair asked me to put together my favorite spooky songs for their Ultimate Halloween Party, it took but minutes for me to compile a list of my favorites.
Some of these you will no doubt recognize, others you may have never heard. I love a good mix of oldies and newbies so without further adieu, I give you a haunting playlist perfect for any type of chilling gathering…
1. “This is Halloween” — Danny Elfman
I mean, I had to put this one on there, right? It really does say “this is Halloween,” and not just because it literally says it in the song. Am I right?
2. “Thriller” — Michael Jackson
No-brainer. And definitely one of the best music videos of all time.
3. “Ghostbusters” — Ray Parker Jr.
Sigourney Weaver freaked me out so much as a child, this is my homage to Halloween in the 80’s.
4. “Superstition” — Stevie Wonder
Perfect for dancing. And singing. And moving. And grooving.
5. “Monster Mash” — Bobby “Boris” Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers
Everybody, get down in a geeky sort of way and watch your Uncle Larry do the monster mash in the middle of a family mosh pit.
6. “Ramalama Bang Bang” — Roisin Murphy
You can’t help but dance to the beat and imagine zombies doing the same.
7. “Walking on Air” — Kerli
Perfectly creepy and a modern take on a Halloween dance jam.
8. “I Put a Spell on You” — Nina Simone
Good when the night is winding down and you’ve had one too many sips of witch’s brew.
9. “Dead Man’s Party” — Oingo Boingo
…And when you want to get that party started again.
10. “Little Drop of Poison” — Tom Waits
A good note to end on, just as you toast the final drink of the night. (insert evil laugh)
And there you have it, friends. Now get planning that costume party and even if your outfit is a flop, at least there will be plenty of jams to keep the ghouls dancing till dawn.
Now, head on over to The Summery Umbrella tomorrow to get a perfect appetizer for your Halloween bash.

Werewolves of London (can’t remember who it’s by right now?) is always on our Halloween party play list. Such a fun time! Thanks for sharing.
