Ya’ll know I love a good makeover. Before and after reveals are my jam. Your front porch is the first thing people see right before they enter your home so I like to set the tone right away. Take a look at your front porch right now. Go on, I’ll wait. Ok, does it say all you want it to say about your home? If not, it might be time for a porch makeover. Schlage reached out to me to participate in a front porch refresh and I knew the perfect candidate: #projectpaintitall.
For #Projectpaintitall , the porch needed a bit more than a refresh– it needed a major makeover. Here is a before photo just to refresh your memory.
So many things wrong. So, so many. The door style, of course, didn’t match the renovations we did but also that hardware is also pretty epic. I think it’s pretty in an antique Anthropologie type way, but it definitely didn’t go with the updated home style. Here is what it looks like after our big refresh:
Of course, a new front door was in order. That was a no-brainer. We also painted the brick, added a new mailbox, and pretty round planters. The new door hardware from Schlage was like the cherry on top of the sundae.
I wanted the door hardware to match the flow of the home. Since we were going for a very mid-century modern feel, we selected the Century Single Cylinder Handleset and Latitude Lever.
It really added so much to the door and porch area and fit in perfectly with the style of the home. Ironically, it’s the exact same handle I chose for our last home, all on my lonesome. It’s really versatile and one of my favorite styles because I feel like it can swing really modern, like it did for this project, but also works for a more transitional home like my last house.
Another thing I like about Schlage handles is the they are really straightforward to install. If you’re never installed one before, these come with a template to help you get it all lined up. Really super helpful.
Schlage has a wide variety of styles to fit your home. And one lucky withHEART reader can give their front porch a refresh using Schlage hardware. They are giving away front door hardware valued up to $500 (winner selects hardware)! Door hardware can make all the difference, especially if you have an outdated door. You can add a wow factor with just a simple switch.

Entry ends Tuesday night at midnight. Winner announced Wednesday so remember to check back! Nothing stinks more than announcing a winner then having them never know they won something awesome!
I’m excited to hear about which hardware you would choose for your front porch refresh! Meanwhile, I’ll be finishing up decorating my front porch for the 4th of July holiday. I’ve always wanted to use hanging flag fans and I think with our big railing, I finally have a place to use them!

I chose the Avila lever with Addison trim in ages bronze for our 1922 Craftsman. I would love a touch pad or keyless entry, but don’t think it would mesh well with our old house.
Not sure if you are aware. When your blog notification is being sent via email it is only showing your past entries and not the most recent post. Unless you click on the With Heart title will you see the current post. In past the notification would have the current post but that is no longer happening.
Thank you! I’m trying to figure out why it’s doing that!
I have been seriously eyeing that same handleset for ages! We’re getting ready to move, and I’m kind of hoping our front door needs some new hardware – Century Single Cylinder Handleset and Latitude Lever for the win.
Without realizing, I picked the same one you did – the Century Single Cylinder Handleset and Latitude Lever. I think it would go perfect with our mid-century ranch!
Love the front porch makeover. I would go with the Camelot. Changing out all our knobs in the house is on our to do list. We changed out all of our knobs in our old house with schlage and we loved how it changed the feel of the house. I also loved the tool to help select a style!

I need new front door hardware! I love the Schlage Touch Handleset | Century Style Touchscreen Deadbolt and Handleset with Merano Lever Satin Nickel. My neighbors have a touchscreen and it’s awesome.
I’ve been eyeing the same handleset — although in the matte black finish — for a few months now. It is so sleek and beautiful.
I would love this. I chose the Georgian Knob with the Camelot Trim, in a Oil Rubbed Bronze. Or, the Georgian Knob with the Brookshire Trim, in a Matte Black finish.
Thanks
Stacy McGovern
I would choose the century. It’s the perfect handle for my front door!
Nice Job!
Are doing a post on the high gloss lacquer dresser?
Thank you Tom! And yes, I’m planning to! It should be coming up soon. Thanks for reading!
Love this Jen! Fab job. I love that mailbox too! I’ve been eyeing the exact same one for our home. I’m assuming this is the smaller of the two sizes? I haven’t pulled the trigger bc I keep going back and forth between an actual mailbox, or installing a door mail slot. #decisionsdecisions. Anywhoooo we have a Schlage and love it, but we are wanting different style now that we’ve renovated are making over our front entry area. I’d love the Schlage Touch Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Century trim paired with Century Handleset and Latitude Lever with Century trim. Love the sleek modern styling, and MUST have the keyless entry. We LOVE ours! Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway friend.
You won! You won! Email me, girl!
Gorgeous makeover! I really like the Century Single Cylinder Handleset and Accent Lever. Thanks for the giveway!
I’m now following them on Twitter (@virginiastblog)!
Hi Jen,
What is the name of the paint color that you choose for the brick? It is very beautiful:)
I really like the door handle that you chose! I have a mid century home too and tend to like that look. I did the style selector on the website, and it said that I would like the Greyson black knobs. I like that look too!
I would go with the century. So pretty.
I like the matte black merano lever
I love what you picked — the Century Single Cylinder Handleset and Latitude Lever. It fits our same mid-century mod aesthetic and would be perfect timing as we’re nearing the end of our home reno!
Classy, dignified and fun! Love it.
I would love the Camelot Double Cylinder Handleset and Georgian Knob for our more traditional style home in brass! It’s a bit old and the handles are all sticking lately. Very fun to browse the options
Since our house was built in 1962, I have to say that I would choose the same you selected – the century single cylinder handleset and lever in polished nickel. I love what you did to your door. Where did you get your exterior light? I want to update ours since it currently is from the 1980s and like your selection
Wow, what a transformation! The entrance is much more welcoming now. Loving that sleek door handle!
Jen, Where did you get the door? I love it!
Thank you! It’s from Stock Building Supply
