What kid doesn’t want to sleep in a bunk room? Try it. Go find a kid, any kid, and ask them what kind of bed they’ve always wanted to sleep in. You bet your bottom dollar, it’s a bunk bed.
In one of our recent projects, #projectdesertescape , there was an awkward room in the back of the home that lacked purpose. Our clients were at a loss as to what to do with it, but they knew they wanted to create a sort of “kid zone” for their kids, cousins, and friends. This family loves to entertain and host large gatherings and it seemed a no brainer that a big bunk room was the answer.
This space was a bonus room with no real definition. It is oddly shaped, deceptively big, and tucked away from the rest of the home. It had all the makings of a super cool kids hideaway.
This room has some cool things going for it in the kid department: a secret passage way from the downstairs kitchen, a sort of “stage” area we outfitted with a karaoke machine, naturally. And a small room adjacent to it just begging for a video game setup.
That sofa? It pulls out to a bed. Bam, more kids can stay there. Back inside the main bunk room….
A large teepee invites imaginative play, and the toy cubbies are filled with the cutest desert inspired toys I ever did see.
We are almost finished with sharing this gorgeous home! We have just a few more spaces to go, so stay tuned for those later this week.
