A FRONT PORCH FACELIFT

May 27, 2014

There are few words adequate to express my distaste with the former state of my front porch.  It’s silly, really, that we didn’t tackle it long ago.  For one reason or another we just kept putting it off.  Well, I’m thrilled to say no longer!  We said so long to the salmon paint and the storm door.  We weren’t the least bit sad to see them go.

A few shots from the day we closed (can’t claim that wreath behind the glass door), and a couple recent photos…

We are mid-bathroom and family room remodel, and Jon has been working around the clock, so I brought in a painter we’ve used in the past, Jorge.  He is so reasonably priced and meticulous.  So worth it.  There’s no way I could have painted our exterior doors with Ruby by my side.

I went with a color called Dragon’s Breath by Benjamin Moore.  It’s dark and rich and goes well with our brick color (which isn’t my fave, but that’s what we’re working with, people).

We ditched the old, worn gold hardware and handle for a fresh, modern, brushed nickel.  The hardware, handle, hinges, kick plate, knocker, and peep hole are all from Stanley Hardware with a couple things from Home Depot.

I threw in some pots and flowers also from Home Depot and bam, my door is now part of 2014.  The curb appeal is so so so much better!

I still have plans for a new rug and some changes to the outdoor lights.  Always something to be done, I tell ya.

We both keep saying man, we should have done this a long time ago!  It’s amazing what a little paint and some hardware can do.

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day,

The doors look fab and that picture of the painter is hilarious. I have a few pics myself of service people looking angry that I’m creepily taking their picture 🙂

Love the makeover. You nailed it with both the paint color and especially the new hardware. The flowers too are lovely! Look forward to what you’re able to find to replace the rug and outdoor lights. 🙂
