Playroom Vintage Touches

December 8, 2015

Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for a good vintage find.  The playroom was no exception.  (you can view the whole playroom reveal HERE)  With those tall built-ins, there was plenty of space to add in some old with the new.  The playroom is woven with wonderful little treasures– some thrifted or found at antique shops, but some sentimental.  Today I want to share the playroom vintage touches with you.

Let’s start with the most special first– the framed art on the large wall above the play kitchen.

It’s actually a set of four hand-painted dish towels.  My paternal grandmother loved to paint and made these sweet towels when I was very small.  My dear father saved them for me all of these years and I’ve been keeping them safe, trying to find the perfect place for them.  They just seemed like the perfect touch for the playroom.  Each has a little bird with the sayings Wash Day, Happy Day, Bake Day, and Church Day.  I love them so much and they make me happy every time I look at them.  Isn’t that what artwork should do?

On the bookshelves, there are a lot of little vintage finds.  The colorful Reader’s Digest books I’ve been collecting for a few years.

Some of the children’s books were mine when I was a girl, and some were even my dad’s.  The arrow contraption I found randomly at a thrift store and I just loved it.

The globe collection was found over time, mostly at thrift stores, one at an antique shop, and one from Homegoods.  The ceramic boy/girl head bookends were found at a thrift store a couple years ago and I’ve been trying to find the right spot for them.

The rocking horse was a thrift store rescue I refinished for Ruby two years ago for Christmas.

I feel like every space needs old stuff mixed in with the new.  It gives a room some soul, some history, and some quirk.  Every room needs some quirk, don’t you think?

Speaking of giving rooms some soul, are you just loving the #aholidaywithheart tour?  Gems are being shared, guys.  Be sure to click through and read all of the goods.  You’ll laugh, cry, and be inspired, I promise.  Here is an updated tour list so you can catch up:

  1. Awwww that kitchen has memories for me. Such a sweet room. And YES old stuff mixed with new is key to any room design, I so agree.

What is the flooring style/color that you used in the playroom?
