Holidays in Full Swing

November 21, 2015

There is something about this holiday season that feels so different from years past.  Maybe it’s that we’re finally (somewhat) settled in the #staggreno after feeling so displaced and temporary last year.  Or maybe it’s that we’re now a bigger family of four and sweet Ruby is more aware than ever that Santa is always watching.  This year I am so eager to get our home decorated, plan our upcoming celebratory activities, and relish in every tradition— both old and new.

I have an exciting week in December when a group of truly inspiring bloggers will be sharing their favorite holiday traditions with you– can’t wait for that.  I would love to hear your favorite traditions as well.

Around here, we’re already hooked on holiday movies and hot cocoa.  We’re blasting Christmas carols in the car and I’ve started holiday shopping for presents as well as some entertaining.

This week Trolley Square invited a group of bloggers to an evening of dining and shopping at the mall and it was so lovely– not just because I got to spend the night with one of my best friends and a fun group of bloggers, but also because it took me back to Christmases of my childhood.  When I was little, Trolley Square was theee happening spot for holiday shopping.  I remember making an evening of it after my elementary school choir Christmas performance at Trolley Square and walking with wide eyes from shop to shop.  Something about the boutique shops, historic brick walls, and steel posts felt special– different from any other shopping destination– and that feeling is still alive today.

It’s no secret Trolley Square has gone through some tough times in recent years.  The tragic shooting, a downturn in the economy, and tough competition from new downtown developments took a toll on the mall.  But not only does it still have a few of my favorite specialty shops that have remained staples through the years (like Tabula Rasa that has the most lovely stationary, vintage style cards, keepsakes and books), but it has some stores not to be missed around the holiday season (hello Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, and Williams Sonoma).  Also, I could spend hours in Alice Lane.  And Lululemon.  And Whole Foods.  No explanations needed there, people.

The dining spots are still on point and I truly think there’s no atmosphere like it.

Trolley Square is hosting an Instagram and/or Facebook contest going on now for $100 gift card to the mall.  Take a photo at Trolley Square and use the hashtag #mytrolleysquare in the post.  Winners will be chosen each week until Christmas.

I hope you’re spending your weekend getting into the holiday spirit.  I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but I can’t help it!  Here’s to smooshing all of November and December in a big grateful-red-and-green-festive-feast.
