#Staggreno Kitchen Reveal

September 13, 2015

Today kicks off a week full of wonderful.  Each day I’ll be breaking down a different part of the kitchen, starting today with the full kitchen reveal.

This space is a special one.  It’s the heart of our home, and the place where we spend most of our hangout time.  With a lot of hard work, including knocking down an entire exterior wall and removing the ceiling in order to vault it, it’s now unrecognizable.  But just for old time’s sake, let’s remember what it looked like before and blow your mind…. (you can also check out the video before tour, all the before photos, and progress videos HERE)

It’s a bit hard to explain in photos (the video does a much better job) but the new kitchen is actually where this bedroom once was.  The old kitchen is part of the great room/living area adjacent to the new kitchen, and the old dining is the new dining, but pushed out after the addition.

Boy, it really is hard to believe it actually looked like that after seeing what it looks like now.  I really wanted to re-use those appliances and just paint the cabinets white but it just wasn’t working with the floor plan.  wink wink.

Behold, I give you our new kitchen (photos by Veronica Reeve):

Ruby got in on the photoshoot action while Anna was napping.  She takes the kitchen up in the cute department, don’t you think?

I mean, can you even believe this is the same house?  So so so much to break down and share with you, from countertops to hardware to cabinets to lights and styling details.  I don’t want to leave you hanging today, so here are some sources.  You’ll definitely want to come back tomorrow– I’m sharing how we did the cabinets and you guys, would you believe we did them ourselves?  Yep.  A DIY.  It’s a good one.

I truly love your kitchen!!! I always thought of painting my walls Benjamin’s super white and cabinets simply white or chantilly lace by Benjamin M. But I was told that the cabinets should be the same or lighter than the wall color is that true. How do feel about that? I really would love an honest opinion because I always get headaches when It comes to paint samples.

  2. Sarah says:

    So beautiful!

  20. Kristen says:

    amazing!!

  21. Leilani says:

Beautiful makeover! Did you use Daltile subway tile? What kind and color of grout did you use, it almost looks like there’s no grout the color is so well matched!

  22. Suzanne M says:

We’re using Ikea cabinets and DIY Shaker Semi Handmade cabinet doors for our reno too! I was actually wondering how your electrical was done for your microwave. We’re having our 30″ Sharp Microwave drawer installed this week in our island and I would love some pointers! I’m a little nervous since I would still love for out bottom drawer in that cabinet to still be functional.

    • Jen says:

Hi Suzanne, there’s an outlet inside the island in the same cavity as the microwave and it’s just plugged in. We had our electrician put it in. Our bottom drawer is functional. Does that answer your question?

      • Megan says:

Hi Jen, I’m just discovering you, your blog and your gorgeous kitchen via Semi-Handmade. We are renovating a home in Virginia are planning an Ikea kitchen (We’re from California…everything is IKEA!). I see the bottom drawer for your microwave cabinet is function, but how is your microwave sitting in that slot? Did you attach a board for it to sit on? I don’t know if you read messages on this post any longer, but thanks in advance for the guidance!

        • Jen says:

Hi Megan, thank you so much! The microwave is a drawer microwave, meant to me mounted in an island. It’s pretty great– we’ve never had one before this house. Hope that is helpful!

  23. […] of WithHeart isn’t finished with their home renovation yet, but if the kitchen makeover is sign of what’s to come, we’re in for a […]

  24. Susan says:

I love your kitchen and we’re about to start ours. i love the bar stools too – can you share the info? Thanks!

  25. Rayna says:

Hey, I love your wood floor color. Do you happen to recall the brand/finish/color? Thanks!

  26. Ellen says:

I absolutely adore your kitchen, it’s everything my kitchen wishes it could be! I just found you via the semihandmade site and I’m so glad I did. I have a question regarding painting your cabinetry. Did you have to paint the boxes (especially with the navy), and, was there any special prep to get the paint to adhere to the boxes? I am looking at IKEA framework but really want wood doors so this will work out beautifully for my needs. Thanks for any help/advice. Your kitchen is fab!

    • Administrator says:

Hi Ellen, we did not paint the inside of our boxes. They were already white, so we just kept them white– even the navy. Hope that is helpful! Let me know if you have other questions. Best!

  27. Paola says:

I am in awe with this kitchen transformation. I truly LOVE IT! The space is so grand, bright and airy. Plus, it is so well designed I am overly intrigued. Would you please do a post on how you came about the kitchen design, moodboards, etc? I am the type of learner that loves to see things thoroughly layed out and explained from start to finish. Your inspiration, thought process, deliberation of the project, etc.
Furthermore, I am having trouble organizing my kitchen cabinets/ drawers and a post about what you store and how you organize the kitchen would be awesome! In short, a look inside those cabinets and drawers, if you don’t mind, hehehe! Thank you so much in advance. I congratulate you for such a beautiful space and home. I am in LOVE! You’ve found yourself a new reader (I just discovered your blog).

  28. Ann says:

Hi Jennifer – Beautiful kitchen! I sent you an email about the pendants – not sure if you received it. I would love to purchase the pendant lights. Could I order through you? Could you provide info? Thanks!

  29. Tashia Bailey says:

Hi. I have tried the link for the barstools, and maybe WayFair is out of this design. Do you know the name so I can look elsewhere? Thanks! I love them!

Also, that transformation is unbelievable. You’ve given me the courage to bring blue into my kitchen and images to use as inspiration so it doesn’t look “Nautical”! Bravo- it’s gorgeous!

  30. nadia says:

    hi there,

i just saw this kitchen and it looks amazing…
where did you get the handles that are so nice ? can you send me the link..it’s the first time i see “gold” handle and it looks amazing,,i want some !

    thanks

  31. Jenn Searls says:

I am very curious about how you handled the under-cabinets? I installed an Ikea kitchen a couple of houses ago and the only thing I didn’t like were the light rail pieces that were supposed to be installed between the side panels of the upper cabinets. It doesn’t look like you did that…

    • Jen says:

Hi! Thank you for following withheart and for your question. I’m not sure I’m understanding your question. I’m not sure what light rail pieces you are referring to. In my experience, the cabinet boxes on both the upper and lower cabinets are attached together without anything in between. can you give me more details?

  32. jess says:

hi there! i love the size of your globe lights and wondered if you could tell me what size they are? 12′? thanks!

  33. Michelle Christie says:

Hello, beautiful kitchen. I am wondering what material you used for your countertops? Is it marble or caesarstone? If so, what is the name of it? Thank you!

  34. sheila says:

    Hi
Great job on the kitchen. Also wondering what the counters are?? Are they a natural quartzite? If so could you give me the name of it?
    Thanks
    S

  35. […] haven’t really posted about previously for some reason.  I’ve shared the kitchen, which is technically a part of this space I suppose, but not a whole lot about the adjacent family […]

  36. Eduardo says:

Hello I love the white color on your cabinets, which finish of white did you use on the Benjamin Moore Simply White color?

  37. Lauren says:

Hi there! Do you mind sharing the dimensions of your kitchen (just the two walls with cabinets) and the top of your island? We have a very similar layout and would love to see how close the dimensions are. Thanks so much!

  38. Marissa says:

Dying for those pendant lights. Where are they from? It says to contact you for the source. Also, direct link or name for the barstools? It just takes to general barstool search on Wayfair. Love this kitchen!!!
