Ruby’s Big Girl Room Reveal

November 4, 2015

Today is the day, friends– the day I show you my Ruby’s big girl room in the #staggreno.  And what a sweet room it is indeed.  But just to gross you out, let’s start with what we were working with, shall we?  Remember this? (worth watching the before video just to blow your mind)

A whole lot of 70’s outdated yellow, shag carpeting, and a smell straight out of the 70’s to go with it.  We had our work cut out for us.  Speaking of cutting, that’s one of the first things we did– cut a bigger window out.  It was not only to meet code, but also to bring more light to this dark basement room.  It now gets a flood of natural light every day.

Next we re-directed some plumbing so we could get rid of that weird little wanna-be built-in corner.  The rest was just cosmetic.  New carpeting, fresh paint (Benjamin Moore Super White on the walls, and a soft pink, Benjamin Moore Ballerina Pink, on the ceiling).  New doors, a new black framed window, and an awesome new light and we had a perfect place to start.

I didn’t want to just toss everything from her nursery to the curb and start over in the new house, but instead I wanted it to feel like a room for the same little girl, just in a new phase of childhood.

Her main request was a lot of pink.  I think we accomplished that, yet didn’t make it so juvenile that we lose sophistication.

First, I figure we’ll just jump on in and show you the video tour, then I’ll break it all down and get into the nitty gritty.

I adore this room! Your use of pink marries whimsy & sophistication in a way so few can accomplish successfully. It is fun, girly without being precious, silly or juvenile or even worse, too trendy. I would love to know where the fabric for the throw quilt and the canopy come from.

It is a wonderful room that Ruby can grow into and take parts along with her when she leaves the nest (a looooooong way down the road of course!). WELL DONE!!

What a lucky little girl and what a beautiful new room! Would you mind sharing your carpeting product info? Thank you in advance!

  3. How sweet & adorable! This is definitely a room she can grow up with too. Great job Mama!

I love this:) it is so precious! we are currently pulling together my 2 year old daughters room, and I want to do white walls and a pink ceiling (my husband thinks I am crazy). I love seeing how this room came together, both for ruby’s sake and (selfishly) so I can use some of the ideas!

  6. Mandi says:

This is beautiful! Did you use the same white paint for the walls and the trim?

  7. Abby says:

Where did you find all of the white frames for the gallery wall?
