Patio Dream Plans

May 22, 2015

I’m starting to really get designing each space in the house.  It’s fun to see some of the things we’ve been planning and plotting taking shape.  One area that I’ll tackle soon after we move in– the patio just off the kitchen area.

Even though we added an addition that drastically changed this section of the house, the patio itself isn’t changing size or shape.  The cement is staying the same, and that gorgeous tree that canopies the patio is still in place.

Because nothing major was changing, it was easy to visualize what this space could become and visualize I have.  Wayfair, a resource I use constantly for the #staggreno as well as clients, asked me to design my dream patio, and it gave me just the nudge I needed to start making decisions for the patio.

Our deck in our last home only had enough room for the dining set but this area is a bit bigger.  I plan to break it in half essentially, using our existing dining set, and then creating a new hangout spot.  I want something comfortable and relaxed feeling, with a modern touch to match the modern style of the home.

Naturally, I was drawn like a moth to the flame, or in this case, the string lights.

I love how they look a little retro-y.

One of the things I’m most excited about is some kind of fire pit/fireplace.  If money were no object, this beauty would be back there.

And since we’re talking dream here, I mean, I want one of these soooooo bad.

Back to reality, no patio is complete in my opinion without some flowers.  Love these planter options:

Since we’re not replacing the cement, I’m brainstorming ways to spruce it up a bit.  I haven’t totally ruled a rug out yet, but I think I want something a little lower maintenance.  I’m thinking about maybe staining or painting it.  These images via pinterest have got my wheels spinning…

Cool, right?  What’s on your dream patio wishlist?

Have a happy weekend!  Ours will be filled with what else, working on the house.  Exciting things happening there right now.  We can see the light!

You should consider having someone score faux seams into the concrete, to either mimic tile or wood planks, before staining. You could either do it yourself with a masonry saw, or hire a masonry contractor with more experience and possibly a steadier hand.

Please enlarge your text and print in BLACK instead of light grey. It’s difficult to see grey printing!

What exciting plans you have for that outdoor space! I’m loving all of your plans and also enjoy seeing your home quickly coming together!

By the way, you probably mean “the concrete is staying the same”. People use the words concrete and cement interchangeably but using cement in this sentence is like handing someone a cake and saying, “Look at this delicious flour”. I’m sorry if this comes across as rude because I don’t mean it to be but it’s a huge pet peeve of mine since my ancestors made their living selling cement.
