A NEW WAY TO TRADE YOUR STUFF: SWAPDOM

May 12, 2014

When I find a great piece of furniture, decor, accent, you name it, it’s tough for me to pass it up.  As a result, I switch home items around often and like to switch things up.  But there’s a dilemma– what do you do with it all once you’re ready to change it out?  Enter Swapdom.

I wasn’t familiar with Swapdom until they asked me to help kick off their new home swap, launching today.

Swapdom is a website where you can trade pretty much anything you like (fashion, kids’ clothing, toys, and gear, and now home goods) for something else you want.  I was so fascinated with how it works.  You sort through the listed items other people are willing to trade, and when you find something you want, you post an item you’re willing to swap for it.  The genius is you aren’t swapping directly with the person who owns the item you want– Swapdom lines up all of the items swapped within a group of people so everyone gets what they want.  No exchange of money or listed values.

I’ve listed three items for my first swaps:

A pair of antlers

A pair of solid brass ducks

And a Jonathan Alder Happy Chic photo frame

I looked through the listed items and quickly found a jacket similar to one I’ve been coveting for quite sometime.  I offered up the antlers, and I’m now waiting to see if anyone bites.

I’m so interested to see what I end up with, and who wants to swap me for some of my items.  What a neat concept.  Trade out what you don’t want for something you do, without spending a dime, with the exception of shipping and a $1-$2 fee.  Brilliant.

Also as part of the home goods launch, Swapdom has a little challenge/contest happening.

The Swapdom Team Tidy Challenge is a 4-week event to encourage swappers to get excited about spring cleaning. Each week’s Team Tidy Challenge will focus on a part of the house to tackle, and of course, upload that stuff to Swapdom. One random person who uploads an item to each week’s featured category will win free shipping on their next swap. It’s a chance to organize your space, clear out the clutter, and reward yourself for work by swapping for great stuff you’ll actually use.  Here’s a breakdown of the challenge:
Week 1:  Crush Living Room Clutter
Week 2:  Curate Your Kitchen
Week 3:  Say Bye to Bed & Bath Clutter
Week 4:  Consolidate Craft Goods & Games
I’m already itching to start sorting through my house and listing everything on Swapdom.  Heaven knows Jon would love that…
Happy Monday!  Hope your Mother’s Day was as lovely as mine was.
