AN EASY FIX FOR SCRATCHED WOOD FURNITURE

March 27, 2014

I have a toddler.  Therefore, the legs of my furniture have seen more than a few bumps from toys being pushed around the house.  My poor family room ottoman has been on the receiving end more than any piece should be (plus we’ve had it for around 6 years) and as a result, the poor legs were scratched up somethin’ fierce.  We do have plans to replace it eventually, but it’s not in the budget for now.  So I decided to give it a little love and touch up the legs.

The easiest fix for scratched wood furniture is to use one of these handy wood pens.

You can find them in the paint section of your hardware store, next to the wood stain.  They are usually hanging on the wall and are around 5 bucks.  They’re super easy to use.  I picked the ebony stain for the dark legs of my ottoman.  It blended in beautifully.

One word of caution: the stain doesn’t dry as quickly as you think it will.  I think it’s best to do it at the end of the day, let it dry overnight, and check it in the morning.

And there you have it!  A less than 5 minute fix, for around $5 and my previously beat up ottoman now looks good as new!  Love easy, inexpensive fixes!

How big is your rug? I’ve been looking at that same rug on rugs USA but it says it’s 7″ 6″ x 9′ 6″ and I don’t get what the 6″ is because in my head it’s saying the rug is 6″ inches thick but that seems like it would be a shag rug and not what I’m wanting. Am I just dumb and reading measurements wrong? Any help would be great Thanks! : )
