DIY GOLD ART

November 12, 2013

Yo peeps.  Today I’m taking you back to my nightstand and sharing more about the artwork I used to style it.   I made both pieces, and it was easy as pie (pie isn’t really that easy to make, so not really sure that phrase applies… but it just sounds sweet.  But…. I digress).

I searched and searched for artwork that brought in the right tone and mood, but I just couldn’t find anything I loved.  I was inspired by another piece of art that used what looked like a gold pen, so I decided to create my own.  Here’s how I made my DIY gold art:

I bought an art pad from a craft store, and found a pretty gold pen.  Also there, I found two gold frames I liked (they were about $15 each).  They came with mats, which was nice.

For my side’s piece, I started at the top and started drawing petal shapes, all connecting to one another.  Here’s what it looked like:

It was pretty fun to just sit there and draw for awhile.  I really love to paint, but I haven’t done much drawing.  I didn’t want it to look too perfect or forced, so I just kind of went with it.

I filled up almost the entire page (except where I knew the mat would cover.

For the other side’s piece, I knew I wanted a sort of starburst design.  I couldn’t find a ruler, so I used a piece of cardboard from the frame’s packaging.  I’m crafty like that.

I made a dot off center, which served as my starting point for each line.  From there, I drew lines out to the edge of the page.  Here’s what it looked like as I went along:

I didn’t want it to be too even, but instead to look a little haphazard.

Once I put them in the frames, I think they really pulled the space together nicely.

See, easy as pie!  Well, easy as eating pie, I suppose.

Tomorrow is the fun reveal of the entire room! The video is extra fancy. Can’t wait to share all the details:)
