HOW TO CLEAN MAKEUP BRUSHES (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

August 28, 2013

Before I get going on today’s post, I just want to thank you for your unexpected and kind response to yesterday’s post about Ruby.  I sincerely appreciate every single comment, instagram post, and email.  I loved hearing each of your individual experiences and words of support.  Simply put, thank you.  Ya’ll made this mama tear up.  Wish I could give each of you a big hug.

Ok, enough blubbering.  I’m excited for today’s topic because it’s a tip I’ve used for years.  So many people have no idea how to care for their makeup brushes, or spend way too much money on cleaners that leave their brushes oily.

Back in the day I worked for a high-end makeup line at my favorite department store.  This is the way I learned to clean my makeup brushes and it has served me well.  Below is the video tutorial and instructions.  Hope it is helpful!

I’ve also had some of same makeup brushes for all these years.  In addition to caring for them properly, buying quality brushes is a must, in my opinion.  Here are the brushes I use:

Chanel foundation brush

Trish McEvoy eyeliner brush

Trish McEvoy angled blush brush

Trish McEvoy smudge brush

Trish McEvoy fan brush

Mac Powder brush

Mac eyeshadow shader

Chanel angled shadow brush

Bobbi Brown eye shadow blender

Bobbi Brown lip brush

Trish McEvoy brush case (similar)

These brushes have served me well.  If you have any questions, let me know!  Happy Wednesday!

I am dying to watch the movie but I can’t hear you talking. I can hear the background music but I can’t hear your voice:(

    • Jen says:

Hi Ann, someone else said that too. I don’t know what the issue is. That’s so strange! I’ve checked it, and it works fine. Maybe try reloading and do it again. What browse are you using?

  2. Maybe it’s my browser, but I don’t have audio 🙁 I got the music at the beginning, but that’s it. I pretty much need to know how to clean my brushes, so it’s obviously a life or death situation 😉
I found you via Life of Bon this morning – your blog is awesome! Excited to keep up!

    Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!

  4. Steffanie Clark says:

This was a great tutorial! I’m wondering, since reading all of you beauty bag posts, do you have a favorite under eye concealer? Also, do you use an eye primer before applying your eye makeup? Thanks for all the great beauty posts!

    • Jen says:

Hi Steffanie! Thanks for reading! I use the Trish McEvoy eye shadow primer. It comes with a wand like lip gloss and I love it. I don’t usually use an under eye concealer– sorry!

      xx, Jen
