LIVING ROOM REVEAL (WITH KENROY HOME)

April 30, 2014

There are many ways you can fill a room.  Anyone can fill it up with furniture, a piece of art or two, and call it good.  But when you go the extra mile and really think about the details and how each one flows with the rest, it takes your room from average to amazing.

That’s what I was going for when I designed our living room.  Yesterday I shared the construction that went into the room transformation, and today I’m revealing the entire space. Let’s start with the living room reveal video, shall we?  It’s always my favorite part.

Video/Editing: James Young

There are so many details and projects to share in this space.  It’s the perfect mix of old and new, imo.  And today I’m sharing all of the finishing design details, including some beautiful pieces from Kenroy Home.  If you’re not familiar with Kenroy, you probably are and didn’t realize it.  Kenroy specializes in indoor/outdoor home pieces including lighting, home fountains,  and mirrors you find in many common retailers.

Now, on to the details.

The room has grand ceilings.  I knew I wanted a mirror, and also a gallery wall of some kind, but I didn’t want the room to feel too forced.  Originally I had planned on doing nine matching frames with artwork on the long wall, but after switching up the floor plan so the sofa was in front of the window instead of the wall (makes the room feel soooo much bigger), the frames just didn’t feel right.  Then I spotted this large mirror and it just belonged there.

Oh how I love this mirror.  I wanted a mixed metal look for the space, with both gold/brass and brushed nickel pieces, and the Cameron Mirror is the perfect combination of both.  It makes a bold statement, without going over the top and I can imagine it in my master bedroom or family room as well.  It’s so lovely.

Lighting was a challenge.  The room has a ceiling fan waaaaaay up high, but had no designated light source.  I decided to use two different lights to add a warm and inviting glow to the space.  A table lamp and a floor lamp did the trick.  And how pretty is the glass base on the lamp?

Turning now to the gallery wall:  The frames are all from Ikea, then I painted a couple of them gold, and one mat gold.  I picked a few family photos, and paired them with one of my paintings, some gem prints (details coming soon!), and a beautiful butterfly print.  And the Forever print from my favorite Skoope Home rounds out the wall and adds a sweet sentiment.

The pillows are a mixture of custom made and store bought.

Stay tuned for more details tomorrow!  Believe it or not, that coffee table was a DIY/up-cycle.  Yep, it’s a good one.
