FAMILY ROOM REVEAL

August 11, 2014

Happy Monday!  Today is an exciting day here at withHEART– it’s the day I’m showing you all one of the most lived in, loved, and comfortable rooms in my home– it’s family room reveal day!

When we moved in, I had good intentions of tackling this room early on.  In fact, I really wanted to get it done before Ruby was born (ha, was that unrealistic!).  I knew we would be in there a lot, and people would be visiting frequently and I didn’t want them in our ugly living room.  Every time we had visitors, I wanted to say “hey!  The nursery and guest room are quite lovely– want to take this conversation upstairs?”  I loathed the room and just the way our remodel order went, it ended up being near the end of our list.  Such a shame.  But now that it’s done, it’s been so wonderful enjoying it!  What a life-changer.

First, you may remember I showed you my design plans for the space and put together this design board:

family room board

Sectional | Rug | Accent Table | White Accent Table | Lamp | Pillows herehere, and here | Mirror | Vase | Coral Textured Box | Picture Frame | Tray | Ottoman | Drapes | Paint in Pale Silver

Put on your tin foil hats and brace for teleportation: let’s head back in time and see what I was working with (photo from when we did our walk through– previous owner’s furnishings).

Now drum roll please…..

Here is our transformed family room:

I honestly cannot believe it’s the same space. It’s so cheerful and relaxed, yet I feel like it feels put together and intentional.  This week I’m getting into all the nitty-gritty details in this space, including sharing the second part to building those built-ins (you can see part 1 here) and all of the room specifics– what’s new, what’s repurposed, etc.

So, what’s your favorite part?  I’m still in awe that we built that entire wall around the fireplace from scratch.  Such a proud accomplishment!

Have a wonderful week!

Fantastic room. I love the rug and have been wanting it for sometime but afraid to buy as the reviews on the colors are not great. I’m looking for a grey rug and that looks like the color you bought. Can you tell me what shade of rug you bought. Thanks.

  18. Pretty pretty and more pretty!!;) Love the blue velvet chairs, the pops of coral, the built ins, everything is just gorgeous.

  19. Angela says:

I admire your vision. I liked the surround on the fireplace in the before photo, but getting rid of it and going with the built ins makes the room look so much bigger. Awesome sauce.

  28. Lissa says:

So beautiful! Where did you get your couch and chairs?

  29. Emily V says:

I just bought a gray sectional and wanted to do a leather ottoman. Your living room is pretty much the perfect inspiration. My question is about the ottoman. Its to die for! Is it worth the pottery barn price tag? Or should I look for cheaper alternatives? I have looked around at others but this one seems so dreamy.

    • Jen says:

Hi Emily, thanks for reading! I think real leather is the way to go. It just feels and looks so rich. If you can find another alternative that is less expensive, you’ll still accomplish the same look. It just depends on your needs. Hope that’s helpful!

Stunning! I’ve been trying to figure out how to pull teal brown and gray together. Your rug does just that. Any suggestions on finding a similar rug?
