A NURSERY FOR MY RUBY

When I found out we were expecting our first baby girl, I knew I wanted her nursery to be a special place– a whimsical sanctuary where she would feel so loved.  And I feel we accomplished that.

My demanding work schedule didn’t allow much time for anything else, so I enlisted the help of my friend, Danielle Oakey.  Together we came up with a color scheme I loved.  Light pink, coral, mint green, and white.  I wanted an airy and bright feel, but at the same time calming.   The room is a small one– in fact the smallest bedroom in the house.  But I felt it was the perfect size for a nursery.

We started by ripping off all of the moldings.  They were the thin, standard moldings that probably came with the home when it was built.  We upgraded to wider baseboards and moldings around the carpet and window.  We then searched for the perfect paint color.  The room was purple with dragon flies on the walls.  There was even a little sponge painting action.  Not so much what we were going for.  It took many, many, MANY samples, but we decided on Cool Mint by Benjamin Moore.  I love the way it turned out!

The decor is a mix of new and old, and it’s all very sentimental.  The crib skirt and quilt were sewn by her grandmother and aunt.  The gallery wall is a combination of prints, embroidery by her aunt, and baby pictures of me, my husband, her grandmother whom she is named after, and of course the girl of honor.

The IKEA ledge bookshelves are one of my favorite parts of the room.  The books are a combination of gifts from family and friends, my childhood favorite books I’m passing down to my daughter, and even a couple from her grandfather’s childhood.  I put her closet together using organizers from Amazon.  I also found these amazing little rack organizers to help me keep all of her clothing sizes in order.  Nothing worse than missing your chance to put your baby in an adorable outfit because you missed your window and now she’s too big!

Her room is my favorite place in the whole house.  When the sun shines in, the walls glow.  And I can’t wait to share with her how much love and thought went into each item selected.  All of the room details listed below.
