A COLORFUL THRIFTED BATHROOM MIRROR

February 3, 2014

Who loves a thrift store mirror? This girl.

When I’m searching for a basic mirror, the thrift store is always the first place I look. I can almost always find a great option on the cheap. They may need a little love, but mirrors can be pricey, yo, so I always keep an eye out for some inexpensive glass.  And that’s exactly what I found when I went searching for a mirror for Ruby’s bathroom.

The mirror that was in there most certainly had to go.  Remember how weird it was that it stretched in front of the toilet?  I wanted to add some color in the room, and when I spotted this sad $15 wood framed mirror, I knew it would just take a little paint and it could be the perfect addition to the space.

It had a couple scratches and chips in the frame, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a little wood filler and some sanding.  It was also very, very dirty so it took a lot of windex and dusting before it was ready to paint.

I patched the chips, gave the whole thing a nice light sanding, then taped around the inside of the frame to protect the glass from paint.

I picked up a wee can of Valspar eggshell paint in Simply Coral.  It was the perfect pop of color for the space.

*Sidenote:  I used two shades lighter on the color strip for the ceiling paint, and the step stool (more on that in a bit!) so that everything had a nice even hue and flow.

It took three coats of paint to make sure it was completely covered and true to color, but I really love it so very much.

I mean, isn’t it just the happiest mirror you ever did see?  And all for under $25, including paint.  Can’t beat that!  That’s one sweet colorful thrifted bathroom mirror.

I have got some really fantastic thrift store finds to show you soon, friends.  I’ve been getting lucky lately.  I was not so lucky, however, rooting for the Broncos last night.  Ouch.  At least Bruno Mars was the bomb dot com.  I’m still dancing!  And I better keep dancing after all of the garbage I consumed.  But I digress…

We also spent the weekend working on the kitchen remodel.  I’m just itching to finish it!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
